I have painted tons of people but always the same
way, they were just a model to pose for an idea I had
in my head. However, shooting reference photos
myself only allows me to see the subject from my
perspective. With the AROUSE series I only use photos
supplied by the subject. This process breeds a
specific type of beauty I couldn’t capture through my
own eyes. Typically I am picking the pose, lighting,
emotion, angles, etc. Now it is completely in the
hands of the subject. Empowering them to decide
what composition makes them look and feel most
comfortable in their own raw form. Allowing me to
render it into the work of art it already is. In turn,
giving the subject a chance to see their true beauty
and, with any luck, arouse their self confidence.
